Bidding adieu - for some it's exciting, for some it's filled with trepidation and for a few, it's heartbreaking. The scenes at the International Airport are a collage of stories, all happening at the same time. I see a large family with women in dark burkhas with their pale faces reflecting a myriad emotions. Their gaze rests on the young, 20-something man who from the looks of it maybe embarking on his first overseas voyage and maybe, just maybe he's the first in his family to step out of his cloistered existence. The women seem to have eyes for none but him. The frailest among them keeps running her hands over his face and kissing her fingers. Another lady, presumably the mother keeps hugging him at intervals. While a young lady with doe eyes and hennaed hands holds a tiny baby in her arms who keeps flailing his arm towards his young dad. The lady's moist eyes are fixed on the man. She hugs the baby hard, perhaps imagining being in the arms of the young man. What broke my heart is a 4-year-old with his divorced parents from the look of it. It is time to leave one parent and be with the other. The little boy turns to his mum and says, "Ma, kya main ball hoon?" Before I could hear the parent respond, the BSF cop at the gate asks to see my identification, breaking my reverie. I struggle reaching deep in the pit of my bag. - for my Aadhar card - he looks at the card and stares back at me - he does this a couple of times. Yeah, you guessed, the lady is obviously prettier in person than the horror looking back at her. There are stories all around us, some of pain and some of joy. Pain and joy are part of the continuum.
