The Art of Networking. Is not about doling cards. It's about establishing a connection that can lead to a relationship. Which can then lead to business. Here are a few tips on making your networking work. 1. Research. Before heading to a meet, find out about the event, who will be there, Google or check their Linkedin profiles. It will help in being forearmed with relevant information. 2. Ask Questions. When you see people, introduce yourself and ask open-ended questions that are conversation carriers. "What made you get into shrimp-farming?" "How do you think the stocks are going to fare in the next few weeks?" 3. Ditch the Pitch. Do not sell at first go. You'll put people off. Be informal and work on establishing a relationship. 4. Be a Giver. In case you can connect someone, offer to introduce them and help garner a referral for them. This always works.
